EARTHLY GUIDES
During the grief journey, it is important to take advantage of the earthly guides that are available to help us get through the difficult paths inside the journey. We have to be extremely conscious not to overmedicate or count on drugs, alcohol or any other type of harmful coping mechanism to numb our bodies, minds and spirit. Our thoughtful God ensured a wide variety of support to guide us through our grief. There are physicians and medical professionals to attend to our physical needs, such as irregular physical maladies, exhaustion, sleep issues, eating distress, etc. There are mental health therapists, counselors, social workers, art therapists and other professionals to support us through stress, depression, heartache, anxiety, mood disorders and other mental and emotional health issues. There are spiritual guides such as chaplains, funeral directors, ministers, rabbis, grief counselors, etc. to guide us through difficult spiritual matters that come out of our grief. There are other forms of effective therapies such as support groups, exercise classes, personal trainers, massage therapists, and so forth that can offer a wide variety of healthy coping strategies. Sometimes these earthly guides organically appear or sometimes you have to seek them out. Regardless, they are there to help redirect you when you can’t find your way or will help ensure you function at an optimum level in order to regain emotional, physical, and mental stability and to be as healthy as possible in body, mind and spirit as you go through the grief process. Reach out. Go out on a limb and take advantage of the multitude of gifts they offer. Don’t count just on you. It's too hard to do grief alone.
“Do not be wise in your own estimation fear the LORD and turn away from evil. This will bring healing to your body and refreshment to your inner self.” Proverbs 3:7-8
